I have worked at PZ Cussons' head office since August 2014 as EA to the CEO, CFO and Global HR Director it was a big change for me leaving behind the City Centre of Manchester and I wasn't sure how much I would miss the City and how I would manage carrying on running the Manchester PA Network alongside Mel. In actual fact it was the best decision I ever made and I absolutely love my job although running the network is a bit more difficult I am managing just fine.
Working with great people, great brands (Imperial Leather, Carex, Sanctuary Spa and St Tropez to name a few of our portfolio) really makes coming to work a pleasure I also never run of out self tan or shower gel, and there aren't many days I struggle to get up in the morning and I am not just saying it I feel truely lucky to have the job I do. No day is ever the same in our head office and there are challenging times but that's all part of the job of an EA and it would boring if every day was the same. I was very lucky to travel to our Nigerian office last year which really was a life changing experience I hope one day I get to go back.
The network will celebrate it's 5th birthday this year and wow what a crazy five years it has been, watching it grow from 50 to 630 members has just been incredible, we've raised so much money for The Christie and exceeeded our own expectations. I feel so lucky everytime I attend one of our events that we are still succesful and that we are still getting new members joining us. Bringing the PA of the year awards to Manchester has to be an absolute hightlight for me it was the most incredible atmosphere and being able to recognise some of the work our wonderful members do was an honour.
I am now a Non-Executive director on the regional Board for the EPAA and proud to be a part of something so incredible for PA's all over the Country.
In my spare time (which is a little limited!!) I am a dedicated gym bunny, I am also training for the Manchester 10K as part of our great team of Manchester PA Network runners, I love shopping, travel and good food and ocassionally the odd glass of red wine.
Here is an extract from my interview with Amanda in 2014 :
My career goal is to grow the Manchester PA network which I co-founded in Spring 2011. I would also like to get involved in presenting to other PAs and sharing my experiences.
I was in my first PA role when I received coaching from Heather which, if I’m correct, was about 8 or 9 years ago. I was so nervous about my first role and wondered how I would ever do it after being a nanny for 4 years. Heather helped me find confidence in my role and in myself and, without her training, I don’t think I would’ve lasted as long as I have as a PA and now I work for two of the highest profile insolvency practitioners in the North West.
My top tip for anyone wanting to become a PA, is to go for it - don’t be afraid to aim high. I started my career at Duff & Phelps when it was MCR as a receptionist as I knew there was a PA role going to become available. After 3 months I was off reception and PA to the two equity partners and two partners and I haven’t looked back.
My role has given me great confidence and, believe me, I am totally different person since I started such a high profile PA role. Setting up the Manchester PA network was a huge achievement and I am so proud of what we have achieved it also means that my personal profile has really being raised and there is no better feeling than seeing your photo and an entire page on yourself and our PA network in Business Week. I am also the 2012 winner of the Endless LLP North West PA of The Year.
